TOPIK I · Listening · Questions 7–10 · Level 1–2

Where are they?

대화 장소 고르기

Hear a two-line dialogue (Q7–10) and choose where the speakers are, based on the actions and objects typical of that place.

Test tips

  1. Read the 4 places before listening to see what you must tell apart (e.g. 사진관/미술관, 기차역/공항).
  2. Look for the characteristic action rather than a noun: a haircut → 미용실, cleaning trousers → 세탁소, renting a room → 부동산, a reservation and a room key → 호텔.
  3. Counters and units are strong clues: 송이 (flowers), 권 (books), 그릇 (bowls), 장 (tickets), 한 시간에 (hourly rental).
  4. Common trap: a noun in the dialogue matches the name of a wrong place (사진 → 사진관 while at a gallery; 가방 → bag shop while at the airport).
  5. The right place must explain ALL the lines; eliminate places that only match one word.

Explanation

For this type, listen for the action that belongs to one place, then pick where that action normally happens. The keys are '머리를 짧게 자르고 싶어요' (I want my hair cut short) and '어느 정도 자를까요?' (how much shall I cut?). Haircuts happen at a hair salon, so the answer is 미용실. A photo studio (사진관) or hospital (병원) might also say '앉으세요' but nobody cuts hair there. A clothing store (옷 가게) is unrelated.
