TOPIK I · Listening · Questions 5–6 · Level 1–2

Choose what comes next

이어지는 말 고르기

Hear one line from a familiar social situation (Q5–6) and choose the natural response: greetings, thanks, apologies, congratulations, phone calls, offering food.

Test tips

  1. Identify the function of the line: apology, thanks, farewell, good news, asking permission, offering food or a phone call.
  2. Memorize the set pairs: 죄송합니다 → 괜찮습니다; 고마워요 → 아니에요/천만에요; 안녕히 계세요 → 안녕히 가세요; 다녀오겠습니다 → 잘 다녀오세요; 드세요 → 잘 먹겠습니다; 수고하셨습니다 → 수고하셨습니다.
  3. Who leaves and who stays: the leaver says 안녕히 계세요, the one staying says 안녕히 가세요.
  4. Common traps: a phrase the first speaker would say (e.g. 감사합니다 after asking permission yourself), or the right ritual at the wrong moment (잘 먹었습니다 before eating).
  5. The line is short: focus on the ending and key word (축하, 죄송, 바꿔 주세요, 앉아도 돼요?) and answer at once.

Explanation

This type tests set social phrases: identify whether the first line is an apology, thanks, greeting or good news, then pick the stock reply. She says '늦어서 죄송합니다' (sorry I'm late), an apology. The natural response to an apology is '괜찮습니다' (that's all right). '반갑습니다' is for meeting someone and '축하합니다' is congratulations. '실례합니다' is what you say when you disturb someone, not a reply to an apology.
