Fill in the blank

빈칸에 알맞은 것 고르기

Choose the word or grammar form that fills the gap in one or two short sentences: particles, connectors, endings and workplace vocabulary.

Test tips

  1. Read the whole sentence and look for a cause–effect clue before the gap (-아서/어서, 그래서, 그러니까, 때문에) to know what meaning is needed.
  2. If the options are particles: time + 에 (8시에), place of action + 에서 (공장에서), object + 을/를, honorific recipient + 께.
  3. If the gap links two sentences: 그래서 (result), 그렇지만/하지만 (contrast), 그런데 (topic shift), 그리고 (addition), 그러면 (condition).
  4. Eliminate OPPOSITE verbs that share the object (입다/벗다, 싣다/내리다, 켜다/끄다) — the most common trap.
  5. Check tense and subject: 'next week' or 'tomorrow' never takes the past; the payer 내다, the receiver 받다.
  6. Spend about 30–40 seconds per item; if unsure, read each option in the sentence and keep the one that sounds natural.

Worked examples

날씨가 추워서 두꺼운 옷을 (  ).
Translation

It was cold, so I ( ) thick clothes.

빈칸에 들어갈 가장 알맞은 것을 고르십시오.

Explanation

Step 1: read the reason before the gap — '날씨가 추워서' (because it was cold). Step 2: look at the object '두꺼운 옷을' (thick clothes). When it is cold you put thick clothes on: '입었습니다'. The biggest trap is '벗었습니다' (took off): it also goes with 옷을 but means the opposite. '빨았습니다' (washed) and '팔았습니다' (sold) are grammatical but have no cause-and-effect link with the cold.
