부터 ~ 까지 marks a time span (9시부터 6시까지); 에서 ~ 까지 marks a distance (집에서 학교까지). 까지 alone means 'until / as far as'.

Class is from nine to twelve.
집에서 회사까지 30분 걸려요.
It takes 30 minutes from home to work.
