Acknowledges the first clause and adds a related fact (often with 도), formal style. Attaches to the stem; past -았/었거니와. Set phrase: 다시 말하거니와 (I repeat).

He is diligent, and highly capable too.
이 길은 멀거니와 경사도 심하다.
This road is long and steep besides.
